The Last of Us is returning to television after a two-year break. Season 2 of the hit postapocalyptic video game adaptation will premiere on Sunday, April 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes will premiere simultaneously on Max and HBO.
The series’ next installment will jump forward five years instead of picking up directly after the heart-wrenching events of the season 1 finale. According to the official press release, “Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

Considering the dark secret Joel decided to keep from Ellie in the first season’s final episode, I can only imagine what sort of issues may have complicated their relationship throughout this time.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie alongside Gabriel Luna, who returns as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley, who returns as Maria. Newcomers to the series are Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Abby), Isabela Merced (who plays Dina), Young Mazina (as Jesse), Ariela Barer (as Mel), Tati Gabrielle (as Nora), Spencer Lord (who plays Owen), Danny Ramirez (as Manny) and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara will also guest star.
Coinciding with the premiere date announcement, HBO released new character posters for season 2, featuring Ellie, Joel and Abby. Check them out below.
