Samsung is betting big on artificial intelligence, with two new tablets that have large screens, a premium price tag and a dedicated AI button on their keyboard covers, which are sold separately.
The company announced its new Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra, which comes with a 14.6-inch screen, and its sibling, the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, on Thursday. According to Samsung, they’re its first tablets that have been “purpose-built for AI.” The AI enhancements come in the form of more processing power to make AI tasks more responsive; home-AI device-management software; and other tweaks, including improved handwriting conversion and multispeaker transcription.
Regarding the handwriting upgrade, both devices, priced starting at $1,200 (£1,199) and $1,000 (£999) respectively, come with an S Pen stylus and AMOLED antireflection screens. Samsung hasn’t yet released images or pricing information for the Book Cover Keyboard accessories that go with these tablets and include the AI button. Australian prices also weren’t announced.
The company said its Samsung.com store and Best Buy will be offering a trade-in of up to $800 toward either tablet. Preorders have already started, and the tablets are scheduled to be available Oct. 3, in moonstone gray and platinum silver colors.
Apart from the AI features, both tablets are enabled with Wi-Fi 7, have 13- plus 8-megapixel ultrawide rear cameras and 12-megapixel ultrawide front cameras. The Ultra model also has a 12-megapixel front camera in addition to the ultrawide. Both include microSD slots to expand storage capacity beyond the various sizes they come in, from 256GB to 1TB for the Ultra and 256GB to 512GB for the S10 Plus.
The Ultra includes an 11,200 mAh battery, while the S10 Plus has a 10,090 mAh battery. Both charge at 45 watts.
